We are Zerimar Clay, a very small (tiny!) Ceramics Studio, specializing in classes and workshops that explore the use of color in clay.
Our location is 402 W 51st St, NY NY 10019 on the ground level, one shop in from 9th avenue on the south west corner.
Laminating, agateware, layering, nerikomi, neriage, marbled slip casting, you can do it all here where the clay itself is both your canvas and your paint. We fire between 2016 and 2252 Ferenheight. We believe that all clay and glazes should be fired at the proper temperature that makes sense for that particular body in terms of vitrification/maturity, and glaze-clay body fit.
All of our clay bodies and glazes, are food, safe, extensively independently tested and matched for a minimal to no crazing of glaze surface, and the lowest possible porosity without too much warpage.
About our Clay and Slips
Our Clay body is an ivory body that is slightly over fired.
We offer slips in red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, black, gray, white, and natural tone and have over 44 variations. Each single color has six different versions ranging from deeply saturated to pastels which you can use to create gradients, ombrés and find the exact color you enjoy.
Something very unique in ceramics in general is that our clays can be mixed and matched using standard color theory, want pink? Mix white into red, want green? Mix yellow and blue together, chartreuse? yellow with just a touch of green, and so on. Armed with this knowledge, you can create any color in the rainbow.
About our classes
We have one day crash-course (try it), and eight week long classes.
Our one day classes include one fired piece per student.
The one day ceramic or pottery wheel classes do not use colored clay but get to pick a single colored glaze for their work of art which is ready to pick up one week from class date and expires three weeks from the class date (pickup window starts one week post class and is the preceeding 14 day period.
