Underglaze Decal application instructions

Underglaze transfers are ceramic underglazes which are silk screened onto rice paper. They can be transferred to the surface of greenware or bisque clay and fired from cone 06-10.

To apply the underglaze transfer to clay, mist the surface of greenware with water using a spray bottle.

Apply the transfer, with the printed side down, to the surface of the greenware.

Use a very lightly dampened sponge to pat the back of the transfer paper.

Wait a few moments and then use a soft rib, stone or spoon to burnish the back of the transfer paper.

Carefully pull back the paper to check if the image has been transferred. If the transfer is patchy or incomplete, put the paper back in place and continue to blot and burnish the back until the image has been transferred.

When the image has been transferred, you can remove and discard the paper.
